Why is the recovered PST file size smaller than the original PST file size in Outlook 2000/2002?

The PST file size in MS Outlook 2000 & 2002 is limited to a maximum of 1.8 to 1.9 GB. Since only Outlook 2003 supports PST file sizes greater than 2 GB, it is recommended that PST files of size greater than 1.7 GB be used only in Outlook 2003.
